Saludos.

Last Monday or Thuesday, I was looking the facebok when a friendship request appeared. Every time that a friendship request appears coming from someone that I dont know, I look for the friends in common in order to put the person in any of the four groups: friends of life, people from university, Local wargamers, or spanish wargamers (the fifth group is unknown people). I happened that the guy asking me for friendship was from the fourth group (spanish wargamers), he had a startup called Rocket Games, and he was going to launch a Kickstarter. I send him a PM offering an interview for the blog and at the same time he was writing me about this project.
I finished looking for the miniatures, reading the rules and setting this interview that I am posting today. It was a pleasure to know them and here with you: Rocket games.

  • Who are the members Rocket Games? Where are you from?

Greetings and foremost thank you very much for your interest in our project. We are three friends from Sevilla (Spain): Alejandro and Aldana both who reside long in France and myself, Nicholas, I am now residing in England.

Bernohn's Note: Sevilla, you should be happy because Sevilla won in these days the UEFA Europe League...

B's N2: When I'm writing the note guys Rocket Games and achieved Funding, Congratulations ...

  • Since when are you Rocket Games? What do you do in Rocket Games?

Although we have been working on the project for over two years, Rocket Games exist as such since late 2013.

Alejandro carries weight in terms of creative designs miniatures, the look and atmosphere of the games, Aldana is responsible for the technological and administrative side, and I do a link between the community and the company. However, the three we support each other and most of the time there is little differentiation of roles, just doing a bit of everything.

B's N: Must be good to launch a venture like this with your friends ...

  • Tell us a little about the game that you are beginning (Last Saga)...

We have conceived Last Saga as a skirmish game in a Sci-Fi universe where humanity after expanding through the galaxy contact alien races. In this context, the different races fight each other for the survival in a galaxy that hides a dark and terrible fate.

Initially, with the launch of the Kickstarter, we reveal the human faction of the Council, the grouping of human colonies survived the destruction of the earth, and Uruhvel, an alien race that uses advanced biotechnology, whose motives are yet unknown.

Last Saga represent small-scale tactical combat between forces composed of specialized units fighting. Clashes always have a defined as a mission to accomplish, so the aim will be essential tactic for the victory.

  • Who sculpted the miniatures? I see all your sketches are in 3D, Is 3D the future of the hobby?

The miniatures are being sculpted by Questron, a study that is a reference in the sector, as well as several contributions from freelance sculptors.

The 3D is a great technology that is opening up many possibilities, but we believe that live perfectly side by traditional sculpture; there are traditional sculptors whose works are amazing, but for our 3D designs fits better, giving a more futuristic aspect to thumbnails.

B's N: 3D designs are growing like moss after rain, very interesting ...

  • Looking at your miniatures you see a certain familiar air with the Infinity, miniatures do you feel a little influenced by them?

Infinity has a great quality in their models and are a reference in the sector for any new business.

However, we could say that our sources of inspiration are animes and mangas wicks that are big fans, in particular the designs of Masamune Shirow and the great works of science fiction novels by Asimov, Orwell, Wells, etc.. ; and cult films like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Blade Runner, Starship Troopers, etc..

B's N: I love blade runner, not only the movie, but the original book.
  • The gameplay from what I saw, is turn and turn. Mea culpa, I did not read whole. Is there something in the system that appears to you that can be novel and striking, for experienced players?

The basic system is simple such that is agile and quick to learn; while giving options for adding optins, in the form of new skills and special rules, weapons, equipment options, etc..

This is a set of actions turns, alternating between the two players. We have included mechanisms compensating having more or less miniatures in the army, so they are used during the turn a number of fixed actions based on the size of the game. Besides these actions are limited on how much a miniature can receive each turn. Examples of actions are, move and shoot, hold position, running, etc..

We intend that the important thing about our system is the game itself, not the mechanics. That is, many games are locked with multiple dice rolls and endless lists of equipment. Last Saga intend that to be quick, and that the inherent in the constant query in the rules does make to lose the sense in the game. In addition, we intend to expand the range of missions, now a brief section on the beta version of the rules such that the game modes are important.

The beta version of the rules is available in both Spanish and English to download for free, so you can get a pretty good idea of how the games goes.

  • Do you Played wargames? Which ones?

Our first contact was with the legendary wargame Roguetrader; since then we have always played wargames and RPGs: Necromunda, Heroclix, Dust Tactic, etc.. RPGs and everything from Cyberpunk to Call of Cthulhu.

  • I think I am repeating an earlier question, but, what books, wargame, series were based on or made them a tribute in this game?

Like I said, a great source of inspiration were the mangas we've read since childhood, but looking for a westernmost air in the final designs.

In headings and development, has been a major influence action shooter game like Counter Strike or Unreal, trying to move their action to a miniature game.

  • Tell us the Kickstarter that you are launching, what is? when it start? what amount they want to go?

Our target for the Kickstarter campaign is funding the two boxes start initial factions: the human race: The Council, and the first alien race: the Uruhvel. Also raised are other factions to be unlocked as the project progresses. We have prepared all the concepts, the first 3D models and proofs. The campaign will begin this Friday May 16th at 21:00 (GMT +0:00), our initial goal being 4,500 pounds.

B's N: The campaign is a success!! Congratulations!
  • Recommendations, when to recommend 3 books that have liked, 3 games and 3 movies ...

Since we are three , say a book , a play and a film each.

B's N: I have not read Ender's Game , I will try to read it from the ebook...

  • Space to say what they want , feel free ...

We can only thank you for this interview Bernohn , and the community for the support and enthusiasm that we are receiving . We also thank the companies with which we are pleased to collaborate to this project and the brilliant illustrator Alexandr Pascenko for his work on the concept arts for the game.

Last Saga expect a success and soon to be in your tables.

Thank you very much and greetings from the team at Rocket Games.

As Morrison said, this is the end... But dont worry here you have links to check more about this guys and the project. Remmember that the project had reach funding in the first hours so, now the question is how much do they reach...
Hope you have enjoyed this interview. See you soon!

Ghost Train Games, Interview

About two months ago in one of the many Facebook groups I am subcribed to, it appeared a publication of a new game with a western aestetics and no more information. As many of this new games coming out, it is from Spain, and as most of these Spanish games, they have a high quality miniatures. I contacted them for an interview and they agreed with pleasure. Before the interview, I read the rulesystem of the game and the truth is that I liked it. It has a system simmilar to the AROs from infinity system, but we'll see that it has a different origin. The setting of the game is in the mid-nineteenth century, in a world a little different (more fantastic, more interesting for me too).By the time I got to know the game, and set up the interview had not yet painted miniatures , today we are already seeing quite a few models with a level of very good painting. But let our guests today speak of their creation, with you the friends of Ghost Train Games.

  • Who are Ghost Train Games?

Strictly speaking, Ghost Train Games is Juan Carlos Gonzáles and César Librán, a pair of entrepreneurs who had get into convert our love for the wargames into our own personal project, we hope to enrich this hobby with the highest quality products. But Ghost Train Games is also the friends who support us and a good number of colaborators with whom we have a more than profesional relationship, including sculptors, illustrators, graphic desingers  and so on...

Steam Punk? What is this Steam Punk?
  • How long have you been working on this game (1865 ACW)?

We have started to grow the project some two years ago. It has been a long road and a tough one and we hope that it will end marvelously.

Nicely painted miniature.
  • Are you wargame players? which wargames do you play (or have you played)?
We sum among the two of us almost 50 years of wargaming. Both of us are hungry players and we have gone through many wargames: Warhammer(s), Infinity, Warzone, Confrontation, Warmachine/Hordes, Helldorado, Warmaster, A Call To Arms and a long etc. Actually we are playing Warma-hordes most of the time.

A call to arms.

Bernohn's Note: I havent heard of A call to arms, I'll look a little to see how is the game and the miniatures. I'm not a fan of Babylon 5, but for what you have said to me in private it have a nice rule system.
  • Who sculpts the miniatures? and who did create the rules?
The rules and the whole product are creations of our own, of César and Juan Carlos, and the sculptures are in charge of freelance sculptors. Some of the models we have been showing are from Tercio Creativo and others are from Manuel Olmedo. Shortly we will reveal also a spectacular model in which Alessio Cisbani is working on.

BsN: The guys of Tercio Creativo sculpt very well, they have a very interesting game. Still I could not buy any miniatures from them, but I love them and if a friend travels to Spain I would surely ask some this miniatures. Some years ago I made one of the first interviews of the blog to them.
BsN2: I recommend looking at images of the sculptures of Juan Olmedo (the link in his name), they are very good, he has also a page of a game that is creating.

BsN3: You may look for the rules in their page. I strongly recommend to read the rules.

Whats this?

  • It shook me that the miniatures are not painted, are you looking for a painter?

In truth we have wanted to sharpen so much of the quality of the sculping process, that it has delayed us a little bit on that department. The miniatures are right now in the painting studios, and soon we will be showing them. We are sure that you will love the work that MayArt and Winterland are doing, but we wanted to show the miniatures unpainted, so you could appreciate the details and the quality of the product.

BsN: the miniatures were not painted when I started the interview, but now they are showing the painted miniatures (really nice painted) which you are seeing in this post.

Metal!

  • I note in the rules a clear influence from Infinity (the wargame): in the Aros, in the use of a D20... Which games have you been inspired in to create the rule system? (among us, readers, ACW guys and me, I really like it).

Although it is logical that our Reaction system reminds you the infinity ARO, actually the influence surely would be Warzone, an older and less well-known game. If we had to name the influencies of our game, surely it will be Warzone, Vor The Maelstrom and WarmaHordes, but we differente from most of the games on the market by our unique and dynamic system of impusles and the tactical reserve.

Run you fools!

  • The game has two factions initially (the South and the North, Confederate and Union), but you are showing that there are magical creatures that are facing the Confederates and also you show that there might be other factions. Which are they?
We have more than 9 factions in the chamber. We started working those two factions because, after all, we set the game in the American Civil War. Today we have 5 already prepared, which have been more or less introduced. They will join these two initial factions: Natives and the Spanish, who are far from the Steampunk/Victoriana North and South aesthetics and provide a much more Fantastic atmosphere to game. The fifth is the New Aztlán Empire, the resurgence of the old gods in pre-Columbian Mexico and its expansion, our alternative version of the imperial period in this country, strongly supported by .. well, we already see. There are also Russian, Chinese, British and some more .. we do not want to reveal all yet.

B's N: what a mystery, what a mystery. Surprises are always nice ...

  • What came first: the rule system or the miniatures? Why have you chosen the American civil war?
They came at the same time. The miniatures began to be designed since the first minute, although the sculpting was addressed later. In much the rules have been shaped to accommodate the models we wanted to create and the story we wanted to tell.
The American Civil War is a really interesting historical period. There are many heroes and characters, battles, events ... plus, the actual course of history during the nineteenth century in America fit perfectly in our history. We have introduced magic and technology, but at a historical level we have not changed much the facts, which we believe is a good part of the charm of our atmosphere. It is also a wonderfully documented period, has been (and still is) a pleasure to investigate.

NdB: Particularly, this historical period does not generate much passion to me. Maybe because its not studied here and not well know, and what we learn is all the period of 60-80 years that took to "build" the Argentina Republic (via Civil Wars, by partition of the country, warlords, for many many deaths, exiles, and the British Empire behind it with a fork and knife waiting give us the free trade).

  • What do you think you will add to the rules?

The next step will be to write the complete rules of scenery and go sketching scenarios. Otherwise, save adjustments, rules are already in a version, we think, quite definitive. In any case it is a live ruleset where we will be adding more elements (such as optional rules for Enviromental conditions on scenarios).
B's N: I like the idea of adding Enviromental conditions to the game..

  • Your web page says that soon you will be launching a Kickstarter campaign, tell us a bit more about this please.

Indeed. We will start a campaign on Kickstarter.com on March 22 and it will last one month. That is the final stage of this journey, and the starting point at once. To launch this project we need the funding required to meet the initial costs of production. Pray attention to our website, Facebook and Twitter, we will keep you informed of the process with updates, news and surprises.

  • Time of the recommendations. It is a tradition in the blog to ask to the people interviewed three recommendations on three topics: books you have loved to read, Games you have loved to play and music that touches you in the deepest part.

Hard, hard , hard to choose only 3 Games:
  • Warmachine/Hordes has a fantastic set of rules, balanced and really well oriented towards competitive gameplay, whose organization highlights the company that publishes it, Privateer Press.
  • Nemesis/Kensei from Zenit Miniatures, has some of the most spectacular miniatures in the market and a recent review of the system.
  • Relics of Tor Gaming is also very interesting, with some astonishing miniatures.

Books:
Music:

Well, I hope you get the funding to continue seeing your lovely miniatures. Thanks for the interview!

Ambos somos ávidos jugadores y hemos tocado muchos, Warhammer(s), Infinity, Warzone, Confrontation, Warmachine/Hordes, Helldorado, Warmaster, A Call To Arms y un largo etc.

Minis de A call To arms

I found, recently, in our spanish wargaming forum (wargamez) some guys that were posting to publicize his game, a new one that was just beginning. So I decided that, as I do with other starting companies, that was a good time for an interview to make them known to the readers of this blog.

  • Who composed Sentinel Games? Where are you from guys? Which game are you about to start producing?

Sentinel Games is a new miniature and tabletop games entrepreneurship composed of players and lovers of wargames. We are from Spain, specifically Madrid, but we want to be close to any player of the world thanks to internet.
Our first release will be “Total Extinction”, a science fiction battle game in the 28mm range. The world and the system are both of our creation.

  • Why do you think that Spain is been the cradle of so many high-quality games?

The truth is that I don't know, maybe the crisis strengthen the creativity. The fact is that once open the way with good productions, the fans see that it is possible to take a plunge and try to produce our own games. I hope that we will be at the same high of the preceding games.

  • The models of the miniatures that you are showing us are very encouraging, Will all these miniatures made so with 3D modeling?

In the beginnin yes, at least the ones that compose the first release. We have allwasy loved the 3D desing and I believe that our sculptor is doing a great job.

Yes indeed, he is doing a great job!

  • Which will be the material of the miniatures?

The miniatures will be produced in plastic, although we don't discard using resin or metal for special models in the future.

  • Skirmish or Battle units?
Glorion Tank

Battle units, we didn't want to set apart tanks, airships and so on, and in order to face all those beasts what better than a soldier squad?

Note of Bernohn: a TAG!

  • As far as I could see there is a kind of Soviet Union, or something like that, what other factions you have in the game? Tell us a little of everyone...

You are not so far from the truth, In the Total Extinction universe there are six main factions:

Union of colonies Logo

  • Glorlon: an alien specie evolved from cephalopods that uses genetic engineer to build different biotechnologicalic weapons and whose only goal is the total annihilation of every lifeforms that they could not enslave.
  • Union of Colonies: one of the three human factions. The Colonial Union has born from a revolution in the external worlds of that once was the Unified Authority. His armies are not technologically advanced but they have overcome this with a high will and good armors.
  • Elohim: probably the most enigmatic alien specie ever known. They are pure energy lifeforms, stored in crystals that cover with anti gravity unities to move. Its greatest virtue is the speed and the sigil in the battlefield.
  • Regulatory Corporation: this is a human faction which is the antithesis of the Colonial Union. They are a huge coordination of trans-star independent companies who rule the most developed worlds over the human space. They are the human army with the utter technology although less disciplined and with lighter Armour.
  • Wolver: they are a primal alien race, an extremely aggressive humanoid raze which was defeated by the humans decades ago but they have come back lo avenge. Pretty weak at range combat but when the hand by hand time comes, they are fierce and hard to defeat.
  • Theocracy: When the Unified Authority fell some human worlds plunge into barbarism and chaos. In one of this worlds it emerged a prophet that established a religious regime called the Theocracy. His armies are badly armed and equipped, but they count with powerful beasts of war controlled by his clerics, together with a great amount of soldiers.

In our page you might find more information about our factions and which units they have (http://sentinel-games.com/).

I have linked every faction to his corresponding page, in order to let the readers find the miniatures or pictures in the page. As the game is currently under development, so is the page, so be patient...

Elohim Comander

  • The images you have in your page resemble some infinity miniatures. Were they inspiration for you? Are you infinity players?

As for the miniatures, Infinity is not one of the main inspirations, our designs are intended to be less "manga", so to speak. We play infinity, although, and we had it present when making the rules. It is an excellent game that we recommend to those who have not tried yet.

Completely agree...
  • What things do you think will tempt a veteran wargamer to play your game?

We hope that a wargamer will come to Total Extinction to see the quality of the miniatures, after that we hope him to test the game to know the system.
The points that will attract wargamers will be:

  • Agile: no endless turns with one player looking with glazed eyes as the other thinks what to do.
  • Simple but with comprehensive rules, when there are too many rules usually appear interpretation problems and endless discussions of "I believe that this rule does not apply because the rule which says"...
  • With many tactical options (but without harming the previous point), for this we have included "tactic cards" that the commanders may use.
  • And that does not cost an arm and a leg! One problem we have encountered often with wargames is that they seem to be designed for the standard game suppose to spend $ 200 apiece, in Total Extinction want with 5 or 6 units and for much less money can be made fun and games interesting.
The last idea if you put in practice will be really good...

  • ExSer Soldier from the Regulatory Corporation

  • Time of recommendations, every reader of this blog knows that I ask three recommendations in three subjecst: Games, Books & Music (albums or bands)...

Books, staying in science fiction I recommend:

Mmm, I read Dune, very good, I want to read Ender's Game before the filme is released. Starship Troopers, I will look for it.

Games: I think in Spain are doing great things, to show:

Well, I love Infinity (we play a lot this game here), I really like the miniatures of 1650 (I have also interviewed Tercio Creativo two years ago) and Carnevale, it seems to me that they have an aesthetic that is incredible.

Disks or artists:
Three I never get tired of listening are:

I havent heard almost anything of Bruce Sprinteen, Greenday yeah, long ago that I hear it, but it has the smell of the 90s, and I love to RHCP but I am a fan of One Hot Minute, although we saw californication when it was presented here, very good bass player.

  • If we want to know more about you guys, where should we go (Facebook, Twitter, web page, youtube channel)?

Further in the next months we are going to open a forum to talk about Total Extinction, but in the meantime you might contact us using the mail: community@sentinel-games.com

As far as I can see they  have are starting, with very good designs. The rules (alpha first, and now they have a beta) are now only in spanish, but I think they will release an english one sooner or later. They have good ideas, I will be looking how they evolve...
